Life can be hard. Right?
Daily work demands.
Raising a family.
Finding time to exercise & eat well.
Health issues.
Family stress.
Aging parents.
Loss.
Most of the time we go about our days without thinking too much about all the things we have on our plates. Then the day comes when the stress becomes too much.
Ever feel that? Ever feel like you just can’t add one more thing to your plate?
I believe we are never given things that we can’t handle. Even though at that moment it might not feel that way.
I am going to get a bit personal here.
Over the last several months I have been having issues with my hip, the one I had replaced 4 years ago. There’s a lot of things I just can’t do right now. I can’t hike, or walk any long distances. I can’t sit for too long, (not such a bad thing.) It’s the first time in over 20 years that I haven’t been able to snowboard and cross country ski. It’s painful to roll over in bed. It has been so frustrating and incredibly humbling.
I could let this totally get me down (which it has at times, just ask my family) or I can focus on the things that I can do.
I can ride my stationary bike.
I can strength train.
I can take short walks.
I can work.
I can do easy stretching exercises.
I can dig deep & figure out what is going on and make a change.
So, if you have stress & just don’t think you can handle another thing, change your perspective.
Can you dig deep and remember all the things you can do?
Can you find deep appreciation for what is possible in this moment?
Next time you feel overwhelmed & in over your head try this!
Put your hand on your heart, take a deep breath & repeat “I’m safe, I’m okay & I’m loved.” This is from the work of Mel Robbins. She has an incredible podcast and offers quick tools to bring you back into your body and out of overwhelm into whelm. Check her out.
I’m here to tell you that you’re amazing, you’re loved and you’re capable of doing hard things. You do them everyday without even noticing.
Keep up the amazing work!
